St Thomas Aquinas Feast Day Write-up Contest.

28th January is celebrated by Catholics worldwide as the feast of St Thomas Aquinas, the Patron Saint of students. As part of our celebration this year, 2018 we had a series of activities to attract students participation. There was a write-up contest which invited students to write a page long about our Patron Saint, St Thomas Aquinas and what they aspire to learn from him.

We had a lot of entries out of which three (3) have been selected to be published on our page, We acknowledge and appreciate all the efforts exhibited by the participants. Indeed, you are all scholars in the making.

1st Winner

Elizer Commey

10 Brainteasers To Test Your Mental Sharpness

To test your mental acuity, answer the following questions (no peeking at the answers!):

1. Johnny’s mother had three children. The first child was named April. The second child was named May. What was the third child’s name?

2. A clerk at a butcher shop stands five feet ten inches tall and wears size 13 sneakers. What does he weigh?

3. Before Mt. Everest was discovered, what was the highest mountain in the world?

13 Things You Should Never Say At Work

“They are a key component of persuasive communication. Regardless of the audience, topic, or industry, or whether the setting is a stand-up presentation, sit-down conversation, telephone discussion, or an online meeting, a leader uses language to influence someone’s mind in order to achieve a certain result. That’s one reason they’re seen as leaders; their words compel people to follow.” - Darlene Price.
Therefore, if you want to be perceived as a leader in the workplace, a great place to start is by deliberately choosing to speak words and phrases that are empowering to yourself and others; to use language that captivates, motivates, and inspires; and to communicate a vocal image that conveys clarity, confidence, and credibility, she adds.
Here are 13 phrases that should be banned from the office:

Do Catholics worship Mary, the Mother of Jesus?

The often asked question “Why do Catholics worship Mary?”. Shouldn’t Catholics be worshiping God instead, the supreme being, rather than a mere mortal? Isn’t God more important than Mary? What has Mary done to receive the reverence of Catholics? Indeed why? These are questions even some Catholics do ask themselves, not only the protestants.

To put the understanding of Mary in its proper perspective, Catholics do not worship Mary, for worship is only for God. Mary is being honoured as the chosen one to assume a very special role in God’s plan of salvation.

Why do Catholics pray for the dead?

The earliest Scriptural reference to prayers for the dead comes in the second book of Maccabees. The books of Maccabees were among the latest written books found in the Old Testament. They recount the struggle of the Jewish people for freedom against the Seleucid Empire, around 100-200 years before the birth of Christ. They were written from an Orthodox Jewish point of view.
